MET's Environmental Simulation Lab on West Coast Gets Major Upgrade |
| |
MET Labs Union City Environmental Lab has added to its inventory of test equipment:
- A new temperature and humidity chamber measuring 10'W x 10'D x 10'H, with a max ramp rate of 10°C / min.
- A new electro-dynamic shaker with a 12,000 lb-f max rating, with sine, random, and shock vibration test capabilities.
|
|
 |
This adds to MET's already impressive environmental simulation testing resources of:
- Union City's 36,000
lb-f, 2 inch stroke, electro-dynamic shaker
- Union City's 50,000 lb-f, 16 inch stroke, hydraulic shaker
- Santa Clara's 9,000 lb-f, 2 inch stroke, electro-dynamic stroke shaker.
The addition of the new equipment enhances MET's West Coast environmental simulation capabilities and dramatically reduces lead time.

MET Performs MIL-STD-810 testing on PV Modules
There are a number of approaches to verify that PV modules meet the anticipated climatic and environmental aspects of their intended use and locality. Environmental testing per MIL-STD's is one approach.
Energy Masters, out of Canasota, NY, recently commissioned MET Labs Baltimore to perform MIL-STD- 810 testing on their STAR Power 110 and 220 PV Modules. MET was tasked to perform these tests:
- Rain
- Fungus
- Salt Fog
- Sand and Dust
- Vibration
MET also has the capability to perform the environmental testing cited in UL 1703, and with bias voltage/current applied as per IEC 61215 2nd edition and IEC 61646 requirements.
MET is a valuable resource for manufacturers in the green arena, from LEDs to inverters to Energy Star rated consumer products.
Maryland PSC Stuns Smart Grid Initiative
Maryland recently turned down Baltimore Gas & Electric Co.’s proposal to install smart meters throughout the state. It marks the first state public service commission rejection of a smart grid project.
State regulators ruled the proposal asks BGE customers to take financial and technological risks in exchange for savings that are largely indirect and a long way off. The U.S. Department of Energy, which was committed to paying $136 million of the $486 million meter deployment, decried the decision, saying it was a step backwards for the state.

MET Presents Technical Seminars in Sweden with NEMKO
MET Laboratories, in collaboration with NEMKO Sweden, presented a series of technical seminars in Sweden from June 7-11. Several brand name manufacturers of electronic products gained knowledge on North American market access. The seminar in Stockholm focused on NEBS requirements for telecommunications products. The main topics covered during this seminar included GR-63, GR-1089, GR-487, Lead Free Design and Thermal Management.
Seminars focused on North American Safety and EMC requirements were presented in Linkoping, Lund and Gotenburg. Attendees also received in depth knowledge of factory inspection requirements for the North America Safety Mark.
