For a wireless technology to be successful, it must provide the user with an acceptable and reliable level of performance. OTA performance testing of wireless devices involves determination of these transmit and receive characteristics under controlled conditions.
Testing is performed in a CTIA approved fully anechoic chamber to ensure that only signals to / from the device are measured. To measure each point, a spherical positioning system moves the Device Under Test relative to the measurement antenna.
Data is collected on:
• Total Radiated Power (TRP) “talk” measurements
• Total Isotropic Sensitivity (TIS) “listen” measurements
Active antenna pattern measurement techniques are used to determine the transmit or receive radiation pattern of the DUT to determine these quantities.
Radiation pattern indicates the strength of the transmit or received signal as a function of propagation direction.
– Power or sensitivity data is recorded at a range of points on the surface of a sphere around the DUT.
– Provides a 3-D pattern surface.
