MET is a pioneer in the testing and certification of
alternative energy products, such as solar panels, wind generators, and inverters. These products will help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and reduce the carbon footprint of individuals and businesses throughout the world. |

| Alternative Energy |
| MET has supported multiple alternative energy initiatives. In the eighties, MET was one of the first labs involved with alternative energy initiatives, by performing field inspections of wind generators for US Wind Power located at the Altamount Pass in Northern California. MET presently is working with the California Energy Commission, performing field inspections of solar panel installations. MET is meeting with the California Public Utilities Commission to help develop test methodology of electricity meters embedded with power inverters. MET is OSHA approved to test and certify to UL1741 - Inverters, Converters, Controllers and Interconnection System Equipment with Distributed Energy Resources. |

| LED Lighting |
Light-Emitting Diode (LED) lighting is becoming more and more demanded by consumers throughout the world. There are many advantages to using LED’s in homes and businesses. ;For one, they are more efficient. Traditional incandescent bulbs generate a lot of heat. Very little of this heat is used to produce light so it is wasted unless the bulb is used as a heater. In contrast, LED’s generate very little heat and what is produced goes directly to generating light. In addition to their improved efficiency, LED’s also last much longer then incandescent bulbs. The small plastic bulb also makes them much more durable then a traditional light bulb. In the past, LED’s have been expensive to produce because if the price of the semiconductor devices used but those devices have since decreased in price, making the production much more cost effective. ;Although the price of LED’s may be more on the shelf, the savings during their lifetime will more then make up for it.
MET currently offers testing services to fit the scopes of UL 1598: Luminaries, UL 1993: Self Ballasted Lamps and Lamp Adapters and UL 8750: Outline of Investigation for Light-Emitting Diode Light Sources for Use in Lighting Products. The Safety Labs at MET can test most LED replacement bulbs including incandescent and fluorescent applications. |

| Energy Star |
 |
|
Energy Star is a joint program between the US Environmental Protection Agency and the US Department of Energy. Using Energy Star products helped consumers save $16 billion dollars on their utility bills in 2007.
MET can test a broad variety of products to Energy Star standards. All consumer product categories that OSHA currently approves MET can be tested to energy star specifications, in addition to product safety testing and certification. Manufacturers can submit the test results to Energy Star to receive their seal.
The MET listing Mark, with the Energy Star mark is a powerful combination that will help attract consumers and businesses to buy your product in order to be a part of the green revolution.

| Verizon TEEER Testing |
| MET is also a recognized Verizon ITL that is certified to conduct energy efficiency testing on telecom products purchased by Verizon. MET currently evaluates the products to the VZ.TPR.9205 document. As a result, a Telecommunication Equipment Energy Efficiency Rating (T.E.E.E.R) is obtained for the product. Verizon will require this rating on all applicable products purchased after January 1st, 2009. The products currently covered are AC and DC powered equipment, Customer Premise Equipment (external power adaptors), Data Center Equipment and Transport Equipment. AT&T and Quest are waiting for A.T.I.S (Alliance for Telecommunication Industry Solutions) to complete an energy efficiency standard for telecom products and they plan to adopt it as a requirement for the telecom products that they purchase. |
