conditions. These systems can perform in-situ monitoring of many optical parameters of over 200 channels
simultaneously. In addition to testing, MET offers
compliance consulting and test plan development. Testing includes:
product geometry
cross-sectioning
geometric tolerancing
mechanical testing
(vibration, shock, etc.)
fiber integrity (tensile loading, fiber flex and twist testing)
environmental
(thermal cycling, thermal shock, life aging)
airborne contaminants
salt spray
fungus resistance testing
FIT rate assessment
digital optical component testing (BERT, eye diagram, etc.)

SONET TESTING
MET Laboratories is fully
capable of testing to Fiber Optic design
standards such as GR-253-CORE for SONET
equipment as well as its equivalent international
standards for SDH equipment. Our Santa Clara
lab is fully equipped to perform testing
of SONET/SDH interfaces at rates of OC-1,
OC-3/STM-1, OC-12/STM-4, OC-48/STM-16 and
OC-192/STM-64.
Testing of SONET/SDH equipment involves
a variety of areas, such as:
- Network
Compatibility and verification of Network
Interface design
- Verification
of STS-n/STM-n frame structure, Synchronous
Payload Envelope/Administrative Unit
- Timing
and Synchronization
- Jitter
and Wander Testing
- Physical
Parameter Testing involves: -
Transmitter Characteristics, including
Operating Wavelength Range, Extinction
Ratio, Side-Mode Suppression Ratio, Eye
Diagram Mask and Spectral Characteristics
- Receiver Characteristics, including
receiver sensitivity, overload and reflectance
Characteristics
Automatic Protection Switching(APS) Testing
- Pointer
Adjustment
- Tandem
Connection Monitoring(TCM)
The
general list of international standards for
SDH Equipment is as follows:
ITU-T G.703
ITU-T G.707
ITU-T G.783
ITU-T G.957
ITU-T G.958
There
are various other standards that could apply
depending on the function of the Optical
Product to be tested. Countries like Brazil,
Japan, Switzerland, Poland, Singapore have
their own standards for SDH type equipment.
MET is able to test against these standards
as well as vendor driven requirements. Our
GR-253-CORE testing capability, coupled
with our existing capability to test fiber
optic components to GR-326-CORE, GR-910-CORE,
GR-1073-CORE, GR-1209-CORE and GR-1221-CORE
allows MET to satisfy all testing aspects
of your Optical Product.
Additionally, MET offers protocol analysis/system
level testing to:
EC1 (SONET)
EC3 (SONET) / STM-1E (SDH)
