A comprehensive overview of MET's Verizon certification.

MET Laboratories is a pioneer in NEBS testing. We perform all required NEBS testing at one fully equipped facility on either coasts. MET's extensive capabilities include complete, Verizon-certified NEBS testing facilities, in Baltimore, MD, Santa Clara, CA and Union City, CA.

MET can save you time and money by creating a custom test program integrating domestic and international regulatory compliance with the NEBS testing. MET's one-stop approach eliminates the need to coordinate testing among multiple test facilities. As a Conformity Assessment Body (CAB) under the US-EU Mutual Recognition Agreement, MET's testing to ETSI requirements has even more value.

Along with superior capabilities, MET has the customer service to match. Whether it is a mature product or a product in the initial design, MET will work with you to obtain complete compliance.

    NEBS Requirements

NEBS Requirements NEBS (Network Equipment-Building Systems) requires products to be evaluated in extreme environments and phenomena. The key NEBS tests include:

    EMC/EMI Temperature
    Humidity Altitude
    Vibration Lightning
    Fire Earthquake
    Surge Power Fault Airborne Contaminants

Four in-house labs at each MET NEBS facility afford flexible scheduling and complete testing to NEBS requirements:

    EMC/EMI GR-1089-CORE, Sections 2 and 3
    Environmental Simulation GR-63-CORE, GR-487-CORE, GR-950-CORE
    Telecom GR-1089-CORE, Sections 4-10
Product Safety US and Canadian Product Safety Certification

Additional requirements include an NRTL evaluation for electrical product safety.

MET provides the NRTL certification for electrical product safety which is referenced in NEBS and OSHA requirements. MET was the first licensed NRTL in the country, and continues to be top-ranked.

MET has developed a keen understanding of the complexity of NEBS requirements. At MET, each test program is customized, based on factors such as equipment type, installation conditions, and location.
These factors must be properly addressed prior to testing in order to avoid costly and time-consuming re-testing. We stay current on changes to the requirements or applicability of the various RBOCs (Regional Bell Operating Companies), so we can provide the most up-to-date service available.

    Service

MET sets the standards for customer service by which other labs are measured.

MET employs full-time project coordinators who serve as customer liaisons to assure the smoothest possible test program. Our NEBS coordinators are knowledgeable in NEBS requirements and MET staff, facilities, and procedures. Each Baltimore and Union City NEBS team represents the four labs specializing in different aspects of NEBS.

The NEBS coordinators work together as a team with the project engineers and with customers. The customer is always able to interface directly with MET engineers and NEBS coordinators. The customer is always welcome to send a representative to witness the testing.

MET has several customer lounges, and provides fax, copy, and internet services. Additionally, our proprietary METrak Online service gives the customer the tools to track testing progress in real time, online, from any internet-ready location.

If anomalies are discovered in the test results, the customer will be updated immediately. MET's experienced professionals will quickly assist in attaining reasonable, cost effective solutions. Without delay, we can re-test to evaluate the solutions. MET offers the most flexible test schedule in the testing industry. We can work every day of the year, at every hour of the day.

MET can save you time and money by creating a custom test program which integrates domestic and international regulatory compliance for NEBS. For more information, e-mail info@metlabs.com.

    Recognition

MET's designation as a Verizon-certified Independent Test Laboratory for NEBS highlights the recognition of MET certification by all of the nation's RBOCs. MET has earned this recognition by working closely with the RBOCs to apply NEBS standards to their requirements. MET also works closely with AT&T and their NEDS standards.

By working so closely with the RBOCs, MET has developed a report format that provides a level of detail which exceeds their expectations. This reduces the need for further scrutiny and accelerates the evaluation time of the purchasers. As an independent third party and an NRTL, MET delivers reports that provide additional credibility.

By working closely with manufacturers, holding regular, timely NEBS seminars and workshops on both coasts, and providing consultation services at the manufacturers' facilities, MET keeps the process as surprise-free as possible.

Reliable products get to the market first when tested by MET.

    Verizon Accreditations

Verizon will only accept test reports from laboratories it has audited and approved under any one of its recognition programs. MET is certified by Verizon under the following program.

    NEBS-TCP -Testing Certification Program
Verizon will accept test results of NEBS testing to GR-63-CORE, GR-487-CORE, and GR-1089-CORE performed in MET's testing facilities in Baltimore, Maryland, Santa Clara and Union City, California.

    T.E.E.E.R Certification
MET is also an approved Verizon ITL that is certified to conduct energy efficiency testing on telecom products purchased by Verizon. MET currently evaluates the products to the VZ.TPR.9205 document. As a result, a Telecommunication Equipment Energy Efficiency Rating (T.E.E.E.R) is obtained for the product. Verizon will require this rating on all applicable products purchased by Jan 2009. The products currently covered are AC and DC powered equipment, Customer Premise Equipment (external power adaptors), Data Center Equipment and Transport Equipment. AT&T and Qwest are waiting for A.T.I.S (Alliance for Telecommunication Industry Solutions) to complete an energy efficiency standard for telecom products and they plan to adopt it as a requirement for the telecom products that they purchase. TMST Certification
MET is approved by Verizon as an ITL for Thermal Modeling, Simulation and Test Requirements to VZTPR document VZ.TPR.9208. This program is intended to reduce equipment energy consumption by reducing the heat generation and power consumption.

The program wishes to ensure the equipment performs at its optimum thermal operating point, has correctly sized fans for heat removal, if necessary, and results in the system's components operating within stated thermal parameters. These requirements are required for either Controlled (Central Office and CEV) or Uncontrolled (OSP and RT) environment applications.

MET, as an ITL that is approved to conduct Verizon's TMST program, will verify conformance to the requirements of VZ.TPR.9208 by analysis and measurements as necessary, and document the results in a "Thermal Management Conformance (TMC) Report". Verizon requires the TMC Report be provided as part of the NEBS conformance and reporting program.

"When you optimize efficiency at the simplest level, you go to the heart of the process," according to Verizon Director of Corporate Network and Technology Chuck Graff in a press release. "Starting in July 2010, equipment makers will be required to submit results of thermal modeling applied to their hardware that show they have optimized their circuits to generate less heat and perform more efficiently."
