EMC Standards

We have experience with a wide range of standards and regulations. Some of the more common standards for rail applications we can help you with include:

  • Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Title 47 Part 15
  • CFR Title 49-Transportation; Part 234 & 236-Signal and Train Control Systems
  • MIL-STD-461F Requirements for the Control of Electromagnetic Interference Characteristics of Subsystems and Equipment
  • IEC 62236 Railway Applications – Electromagnetic Compatibility
  • IEC 61000-1-2 Electromagnetic Compatibility; Part 1-2: General
  • EN 50121 Railway Applications – Electromagnetic compatibility
  • EN 50238 Railway Applications – Compatibility between Rolling Stock and Train Detection Systems
  • EN 55011 – Industrial, scientific and medical (ISM) radio-frequency equipment – Electromagnetic disturbance characteristics – Limits and methods of measurement
  • EN 55022 – Information Technology Equipment – Radio disturbance characteristics – Limits and methods of measurement
  • EN 50121-1 General
  • EN 50121-2 Emission of the whole railway system to the outside world
  • EN 50121-3-1 Rolling stock – Train and complete vehicle
  • EN 50121-3-2 Rolling stock – Apparatus
  • EN 50121-4 Emission and immunity of the signaling and telecommunications apparatus
  • EN 50121-5 Emission and immunity of fixed power supply installations and apparatus

Our EMC Testing Capabilities

Customers can choose from convenient 10, 5, or 3-meter anechoic and semi-anechoic laboratories throughout the U.S. We can accommodate small signaling equipment to whole locomotives. Our capabilities enable us to test to the highest levels required by the EN50121 series of standards.

Where products are too physically large to be assessed in a test chamber, we can test in situ. Our mobile team with specialized field equipment can test at your location – indoors or outdoors – throughout North America.
